Hip Opening:
Stretching the hip flexors can have a number of benefits. When hips are tight, they increase the load and cause overuse of the spine. In addition to the benefits of improved range of motion and circulation and decreased back pain, opening the hips can create an energetic shift or release tensions.

Backbends are associated with waking up and moving joyfully into the world, with expansion, growth, and embracing life. They are often called “heart-opening poses,” and indeed, opening the front of the body with backbends stretches the muscles that surround the heart, lungs and expands both breath capacity and emotional openness as more space opens in the chest.
