How to sit for meditation: 5 Options for beginners

Make sure you are sitting straight up, keeping your spine straight and stacked, hands resting lightly on the legs. If you are looking to gently ease into a floor meditation, you can try leaning your back against the wall first. There is also nothing wrong with sitting in a chair to meditate. The first thing is simply to sit up straight—sitting on the floor, on a cushion or in a chair—it doesn’t really matter where, but a straight spine will help you to stay alert for your meditations. Try it out so you can experience the difference. You’ll likely find it’s actually much easier to sit for longer periods of time when your spine is stacked properly, as opposed to slouching. When you’re hunched over, not only will that promote a tired feeling, it’s hard to maintain for longer stints of time and you can hurt yourself, causing pain in the back and neck as gravity pulls you down.





When you want to stand up from the sitting position, move first to the front of the seat and straighten your legs. Why is important to improve posture? Assuming a correct posture brings with it a lot of benefits for the body and the spirit. First of all, it helps to prevent pain: back pain, neck, jaw and other body part pain. When you don't take a correct posture, your back suffers because it is constantly put under strain and, even if they don't make themselves felt in the short term, the effects will certainly come in the medium to long term. It makes you look taller and thinner, to put it bluntly. The spirit should not be overlooked as well. A correct posture stimulates positivity.
